Quick Guide to Buying a Treadmill

Whether you are a fitness buff or a complete exercise beginner, a treadmill can be a wise investment. There are many models to choose between and many factors to think about. Start your search with these basics and then you’ll be able to narrow down your options.
Motor: When shopping for a treadmill, the most important consideration is the motor. What you’re looking for is something powerful, capable and long lasting. Quality treadmills use a power output anywhere from 1.5 to 5 horse power (Hp). Obviously the larger Hp will be more expensive. If you are using your treadmill for your home and for only a few people, then 2 Hp is all you need.
Running Deck: Since you will be doing your exercise entirely on the deck of the treadmill, it is very important that you find one that will fit your frame and provide comfort.
Decks can be designed in different ways, but the basics are always the same. Usually running decks on most treadmills come with two rollers on each end, which help operate the belt. There are various cushioning and suspension systems in use by different brands and manufacturers. You want something that provides comfort and takes away from that wear and tear that your joints endure from running.
The size of the deck is the next important consideration. You don’t want a width less than 20 inches across. The length of the deck can vary between 4 and 5 feet, so you might want to try out a few different sizes to see what best matches up for you.
The Frame: You need your treadmill frame to be durable, strong and well made. Treadmill frames should be composed of a steel or aluminium material. Over time, these frames are known to be much more durable then plastic or wood frames.
Console and Dashboard: The console of the treadmill is what will enable you to control all of your settings and view all of those statistics as you’re exercising. You want something that’s easy to read and displays all of the information you need. You also want something that is easy to control so that you can easily switch between programs, settings, displays options and more.
Other Factors: There are tons of other factors to consider beyond these basics. For example you could look for preset workout programs, heart rate monitors, safety features, speed and incline ranges up to 12 or 15 mph and % respectively and more. Be sure to consider what you really think is important, and how much money you have to work with.
Having weighed up all of the information, a treadmill that is well worth considering is a Schwinn treadmill such as the Schwinn 860 treadmill, however that’s just one option of many, and everyone can find the model that fits them the best.
